Cantante de origen colombiano arribada en los años 60 a Chile, Amparito Jiménez es una pieza fundamental en la historia de la cumbia en el país, donde ganó el apodo de “La Reina de la Cumbia” y es reconocida por ser la primera en popularizar ese ritmo en su vertiente folclórica colombiana. Entre sus mayores éxitos en el país se cuenta su versión de “La pollera colorá”.

Su participación en el proyecto Trópico Sur esta vez es con dos canciones de su autoría, con la colaboración de Mapocho Orquesta, Kimberly Richards y Paula Céspedes en percusiones, y las destacadas cantantes Ana Tijoux y Pascuala Ilabaca.

 

Singer of Colombian origin arrived in Chile in the 60s, Amparito Jiménez is a fundamental piece in the history of cumbia in the country, where she earned the nickname “The Queen of Cumbia» and became recognized as the first to popularize that rhythm in its Colombian folk form. Unpublished song by Amparito Jiménez, inspired by a story she heard on a radio show. It narrates the experience of a woman who lives a forbidden love, and the feelings that it brings about. The musical arrangements are by outstanding musician Andrés Pérez Muñoz, interpreted by Mapocho Orquesta, Kimberly Richards and Paula Céspedes. It also boasts the collaboration of Ana Tijoux, singer and MC of great international impact.
